Interview with Toptoyphotos

Here's an interview I did with @toptoyphotos on Instagram a while back. It gives a little more insight into who I am from the geek side of my work! Click the more info button to link to the full interview on my Facebook page!

Late Nights

Late Nights

Happy Monday...If there is such a thing. I woke up wayyyy too early this morning after going to bed wayyyy too late last night. Lots of ideas bouncing around and some excitement knowing I've still got a lot of vacation shots to go through. But many nights I'm up for my late night toy photography session on Instagram (handle is collectin_toyz). It's a toy photographer community event which goes from 11-12 ET up until daylight savings when it changes back to 10 pm. (much easier). Basically it's a huge opportunity for everyone who chooses to participate to showcase one post of new work by using a shared hashtag and everyone likes, comments, etc. Even if I'm exhausted most nights I'm usually pretty excited to let my creativity loose and post something involving, Iron Man, Batman, Darth Vader or any number of other countless action figures I've collected over the years. This is actually what lit my passion for my other photography! It's not just the creativity of my own work that drives me to stay up way too late though. It's about the sense of community and seeing the amazing works others have put together that night. So even though I'm beat, it's a great opportunity to stay involved (and grow a following) in the community.

I wanted to share this with you not only to give you some insight into some of the other things I do as a photographer, but also because a lot of the work you see here on the site was born from those sessions. Many of the Iron Man, Batman and Star Wars images you see in the gallery came from some bleary eyed late night posting! The image here of Thanos is actually my contribution from last night, though it's not available for purchase at this time. (It can be if requested though.)

So there you have a little insight into the geeky part of my brain that inspires a lot of the work you see on this site. Pretty different process than when I'm in a place like Fiji, Hawaii or the Outer Banks. But it allows me to not only be creative, it allows me to feel like a kid again too! Plus my son thinks it's pretty cool. So check out the Star Wars, DC, Marvel or other galleries with some of my creations. Enjoy and look for much more coming soon!

Long Overdue

Long Overdue

Happy Saturday! I've been so caught up in creating, editing, uploading, marketing and all kinds of other stuff that I've completely neglected blogging! I also just returned this past week from a family vacation to the Outer Banks but I'm now here and ready to roll! My wife has a big family so we had to get a big house for this trip. Normally its just the two of us and our 2 kids (4 year old son and 2 year old daughter) but this year we had decided to do a big trip with all the in-laws and kids which was an adventure...But, the vacation came at a great time as I was able to have fun with the kids but also get plenty of time wandering around the Outer Banks taking shots and finding all sorts of magnificent stuff. The beach was probably the least interesting place I got a lot of my captures (though it was still great) but getting out around Duck and the Currituck sound was really rewarding. I was able to have some really nice peaceful early morning walks with very few people on the boardwalk other than some joggers and a few walkers. So I was able to easily line up shots all over the place on the sound and of the incredibly cool trees, marsh and birds that were enjoying their mornings. It was particularly fun to take photos of the birds, some just perched on posts, railings or branches while also being able to finally get some mid-flight captures! I recently bought a telephoto lens that has allowed me to really capture some better distant shots and it helped me get some really fun shots of seagulls and other birds soaring across the blue sky.

I always have fun getting out and taking pictures but the pictures I was able to get at the Outer Banks were some of my favorite. We took a family trip out to the Manteo Aquarium one day (the kiddos slept the 45 minute drive hooray) and I was able to get some really cool sea life pictures. Fish, jellyfish, gators, sharks and more. It really was great for someone like me who is not a big fan of snorkeling and I'm not a SCUBA guy. So those were fun shots to take in a more uh, 'controlled' environment. I was able to get a ton of different shots and I've been working on processing a lot of those to upload for sale. I've been posting a few a day for the last week or so and there's plenty more to come. So I hope you enjoy those as much as I enjoyed shooting them!

So what's next? A lot more processing, uploading and some really fun stuff I'm working on with my toy photography! I'm working on some stuff involving Iron Man, John Wick, Darth Maul, and more. So stay tuned for those. I think they make ideal game room, man cave or screening room decor so if you're looking for something like that you should definitely check those out! And peruse the Star Wars, DC and Marvel sections here for much more. And feel free to say hi at any time! I want to make sure I'm connecting with everyone and I would appreciate any feedback on my work. What you like (or don't like), things you might like to see more of or any questions! Thanks for stopping by and plenty more ahead!
